Justin Bieber & Selena Gomez: Why They Can’t Move On From Each Other

Despite their terrible track record, Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber can’t keep away from each other! 

You know the story — Selena Gomez, 23, and Justin Bieber, 22, break up and make up, and only wind up in the same place they started: heartbroken! Though the exes have been through this mess more times than we can count, there’s a reason why they’re unable to quit each other, according to psychologist Cooper Lawrence, the host of Hollywood’s Hookups and Breakups, who spoke to us!

Selena and Justin are always drawn back to each other because they never moved on from their original relationship! “If you’re still ruminating about someone who wasn’t good for [you], you can’t move on,” Cooper said. This makes total sense when you think about Selena and Justin’s rocky relationship terrain after splitting!

Both Selena and Justin have been linked to multiple hot celebrity SO’s, but none of those relationships have stuck. Selena and Zedd, 26, then with Niall Horan, 22. Justin with Kourtney Kardashian, 36, then Hailey Baldwin, 19…and a lot of other girls. Now here they are in 2016, sending each other flirty Instagrams and pretending they haven’t gone through years of heartbreak!

When the inevitable finally happens — Justin and Selena getting back together — is there any way that the renewed relationship would last? There’s hope, according to Cooper! It depends on why the breakup happened in the first place. Did they split because of something that can’t be changed, like personality, or something that can be remedied, like troubled behavior? “An angry person will not change. Something that can change is maturity and development,” Cooper said.

If Justin and Selena do take the plunge, they both have to realize what they need to work on, first. “Say, ‘I want you in my life,’ and put the blame on [yourself], but never give your power away,” Cooper advised. Her advice especially rings true for young women just like Selena, who are dealing with “bad boys” who have treated them wrong in the past.

 “[Ask] ‘why did I choose him? Why didn’t I choose someone else?’ It’s really important to decide. Have a ‘Come to Jesus,'” Cooper said, “and say ‘what was I looking for in him?” With Justin trying his hardest to get Selena back in his life (and himself on her mind 24/7!) this is really good to keep in mind! Maybe she’ll think twice about going to his LA stops on the purpose tour?
